If you’ve been looking for a way to start your game testing career, you may have come across phrases like these. In today’s world, millions of gamers really do sit on the couch playing games all day. But really, how many of them can make a living off it?
The answer is that very few people get to this point. And in reality, gamers don’t get paid very much to test games when first starting out. However, with hard work, dedication, and the right resources, it is possible to get to the point where you’re making a full-time income just from game testing.
Most beginning game testers frequently earn around $10-15 an hour. That’s better than a job at a fast food restaurant, anyway. After you get some experience under your belt and you can polish up your resume, that amount can be bumped up to $30 an hour pretty easily. Then $50, and so on and so forth. Professional testers make between $70-80 per hour, and sometimes more.
In order to get started with a game testing career, expect to spend some time researching, reading, and training yourself to get the right qualifications. As with any career, you can’t go into it without any experience or knowledge. There are plenty of resources online that you can use to start your gaming career, and most are very affordable, so you sure don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a college education to do this.
If you see headlines about how a lazy video game player makes money just by sitting around playing games all day, they’re usually advertising bogus scams and things that’ll just suck away your money with no benefit. Make sure you invest in a legitimate informational product to get quality, up-to-date information about game testing.
If you want to be a lazy video game player who makes a living just by playing video games, it is possible. Just be prepared to do your homework first. With enough effort and the right resources, you can make your game testing career succeed.

Interesting stuff. That’s some pretty good money.
It kills the fun of playing games though… to a certain point. There should be something else drawing you to testing computer games other than the sheer joy of playing them.
